Tura, Dec 10: A huge consignment of the powerful and addictive narcotic drug heroin has been seized by police in South West Garo Hills (SWGH) on Friday night during a special anti drug operation.
The operation was conducted based on credible source information of the movement of narcotics in the region and the special Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of South West Garo Hills police launched an operation successfully intercepting the consignment and arresting the drug peddler/courier.
A police statement said, during the operation, the ANTF of Ampati Police detained a suspected motorcycle B/Rgn No. AS-34/3138, whereby, one person identified as Shakil Miah was detained and on conducting of body search, 6 soap cases containing orange-whitish colored powder, suspected to be narcotics substance (Heroin), packed in transparent polythene were recovered from his possession.
Accordingly, a preliminary test was conducted on the recovered suspected narcotics substances (Heroin) and the result of which showed positive for Heroin worth Rs. 1.5 lakh in the market.
