Shillong, Aug 12: The Hima Mylliem has warned of taking “stern action” against any individual who stays overnight at Iewduh market, including likely closure of shops where such violations are reported.

Speaking to reporters, in-charge Thana Hima Mylliem, Sainbor Nongkhlaw, said, “We express our concerns after seeing reports showing NGOs conducting checking and detecting people violating the order of the Hima by staying in Iewduh market.”

Earlier, Hima Mylliem has issued an order strictly barring any individual to stay overnight within the market. However, there have been reports of violation of that order.

Nongkhlaw said, since there have been instances of violation of the order, now stern action would be taken against those who are found staying overnight in the market.

“We have taken the stall number and names of the owners and the Syiem will issue necessary orders in this regard. Such shops are likely to be closed down if they fail to comply with the order of the Hima,” he said.

The in-charge said that godowns are also being turned into places for gambling during night time in the Iewduh market. He assured that the office of the Hima Mylliem will be working together with NGOs to ensure safety and security of the market.
