Shillong, July 18: The Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has announced to execute another blast at a ‘strategic location’ that may create history for the state, even as it informed that those arrested by police in connection with IED blast at the police reserve in Khliehriat are not the over ground cadres of the outfit.
In a statement issued on Sunday, HNLC general secretary-cum-publicity secretary, Sainkupar Nongtraw said, “This time we have made up our mind to execute another blast whereby targeting a strategic location. Which might as well create history in our state.”
Nongtraw also claimed that the police have arrested people who are not working for the outfit.
“The police department tried to show its swiftness by arresting youths who weren’t at all associated with it. We would also like to clarify that all the four persons arrested are not our cadres neither our overground workers,” he said.
He informed that the outfit’s cadres and bomb experts started their operation as planned and escaped as per plan on the fateful night.
“By arresting people on just mere suspicions is as easy as catching fish with a net. This is cheap tactics and shows frustration on the part of the police department,” he said adding that the police department was shocked to find out that the outfit’s cadres were able to trigger a blast at such a strategic location.
4 IED blasts in a year
The HNLC has claimed that it has triggered four IED blasts in about a year’s time in West Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills.
Nongtraw said the first IED was planted at a coke factory in Jaintia Hills and without executing it.
The second blast took place at Shallang coke factory, then the ambush at Dharmendra Bansal car, followed by a blast at Soo Kilo.
“Then our cadres blew up the quarters of the Star Cements followed by the SP office quarters attack at East Jaintia Hills,” he said.
Nongtraw said none of the outfit’s members were arrested in the above cases even as he added that the attitude of the police department has motivated them to the core.
