HSPDP to meet stakeholders demanding creation of new States in NE on Nov 30

Shillong, Nov 15: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) is all set to convene a joint meeting at Mawphanlur village in West Khasi Hills on November 30, with stakeholders, who are demanding creation of new states in the North East region.

Addressing newsmen after chairing a CEC meeting on Tuesday, HSPDP chief KP Pangniang informed that the party, which has been demanding the creation of a separate Khasi-Jaintia state, has become a permanent member of the National Federation of New State (NFNS) on November 15.

He said the NFNS is a conglomeration of all stakeholders that include the Garoland, Gorkhaland, Bodoland, Tipraland, Karbi Anglong, Budelkhand of Uttar Pradesh, which are demanding for creation of new states.

He informed that a joint meeting of all the leaders of Federation will be held at Mawphanlur on November 30, in order further pressurize the government of India for considering the demands for creating more new states in the country. The objective is also to unite all leaders from the North East region.

Pangniang informed that the HSPDP has also resolved to intensify its demand for creation of separate Khasi-Jaintia state during the upcoming winter session of the parliament.

He added that the part has had an in-depth discussion regarding to re-look and re-visit the important issues of the party like demanding from the government of India to Amend the para 12 A (b) of the Sixth Schedule to Constitution of India, to recognize the Khasi language to the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India, implement ILP in the state and importantly the demand for final settlement of the long pending interstate boundary between Meghalaya and Assam as already notified by the state government.

On the hand the president of HSPDP K.P Pangniang said that the party reiterates that there will be no uranium mining in the state of Meghalaya and this issue has been the party’s main agenda in its manifesto.

Pangniang said that in the meeting, discussion was also held on the new policy for the benefits of the farmers in the state in accordance with new technology, and execution of the farmers and the party strongly feels that it is high time for the state government to bring a new policy for the youth in an effective manner

“At the same time the stand of the party is that, it is high time to relook and revisit the reservation policy for the people of the state for the larger interest of the youths especially for the youth hailing from the Khasi-Jaintia Hills district,” he added.

Pangniang informed that soon the party will release its manifesto after finalizing all these important issues discussed on Tuesday with the party office bearers.
