SHILLONG, MAY 24: Menangmankhraw Kharkongor of St Anthony’s, who shared the top position with St Edmund’s Gaurav Bharali in the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (Arts), both Manangmankhraw and Gaurav secured 468 marks stated that staying away from social media and consistency is key to success.
Sharing his success mantra, an elated Manangmankhraw said, “my routine for the whole year is one thing I would say is consistency. I do not have a particular routine or schedule as every day many circumstances change so I cannot keep a perfect schedule for my study hours but everyday there will be few hours that I would devote myself to study.”
The HSSLC topper also revealed that he doesn’t own a mobile phone and said, “to be honest I do not have any social media account as I don’t even own a phone, I used my mom’s one. So whatever messages I get from the school or from my friends, I use to take from my mother.”
He also attributed his success to God, parents, and teachers. “I am grateful to God that he has blessed me with wonderful teachers. Whatever challenges that I have I always go to them, and they always help and motivate me.”
When asked what advice he would like to give to others, Manangmankhraw said, “We live in this competitive world and my advice is you should be determined to achieve your goal.”
Describing his success as overwhelming, Guarav said, “I feel overwhelmed. I got really nervous, and I cried but now I got it (top position) I am very happy. I would like to thank all my teachers and my parents, especially my sister, who told me to take admission here and of course my brothers and my dogs.”
Gaurav also shared that the secret of his success is “taking everything seriously”.
“Of course I put in a lot of work but I took everything seriously even for the smallest test for 5 marks or oral I don’t want to keep it to the end moment that was my strategy and I have always known to finish if I want to finish today I will finish it today I don’t care about the time,” he said.
He also offered the best advice to fellow students saying “Please take everything seriously if it is your field of interest, give it your best, give it your best shot. Nothing comes for free, so you must work hard for it. If you really want to go ahead with what you want, then you achieve it if you work hard.”
Gaurav has decided to take up law for his further studies.
