100 percent vaccination achieved under Asanang and Dobu health centres

Tura, June 25: Though there had been many doubts at the initial stages of the vaccination drive due to fake news and rumours about its efficacy, with entire villages previously refusing to take the vaccine against covid, things are suddenly turning around in the Garo Hills as people across urban and rural areas come forward to register and take the vaccination.

This dramatic turn of events is giving a positive impact towards building herd immunity against the pandemic which is creating multiple mutations of the Covid-19 virus posing further danger to the human population.

The role of Community Covid Management Teams in villages and block areas of the rural region in Garo Hills cannot be missed out as they together with active support from the respective community and development blocks alongside the rural primary health centres have been jointly working tirelessly to get villagers to join the vaccination effort.

The positive role of the church elders has further encouraged many villagers to come forward for the vaccination.

Just over two months since vaccines were given to those aged 45 and above, a sea of change is taking place with many villages and areas recording near total or cent percent vaccination of the adult population.

The youth who have only a few weeks ago been given the opportunity to step into a vaccination camp and directly get the jab are now leading the way to raise the vaccination numbers like a phoenix to the sky.

The Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, heaped laurels on all those groups and teams behind the ongoing success of the vaccination drive.

On Thursday, he congratulated Asanang Primary Health Centre of Rongram Community Development Block region for meeting the vaccination target and touching the 100% coverage mark despite previous opposition by some villages.

“This has been successful because of persistent efforts through a lot of awareness and CCMT meetings in the villages held by the PHC staff and the block officials. Congratulations to Dr Toksie and her team , Rongram BDO Mrs Shelley Ch Momin and her Block Team , ICDS team, Market Committee, CCMT. Rongram has registered 100 percent vaccination of adults in the age group of 45 and above. Two other villages under Rongram development block, Allagre and Jengjal Kama also covered 100 percent vaccination of all those in the age group of 45 and above,” announced Ram Singh.

He also praised the youth for the vaccination figure of those in the 18+ which has already touched the 96 percent mark in Rongram block region.

“We need the youth of Rongram Block to come forward and lead for 100 % vaccination of their area,” encouraged Ram Singh.

The success was not just limited to West Garo Hills, as vaccination drives of all eligible adults in Dimit Rongtat village under Dobu PHC of Samanda block in East Garo Hills also recorded 100 percent success in the drive.

“Heartening to see the team also provided them with food packets as an encouragement of the efforts of the villagers to come forward. May this inspire many more villages!” said East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Swapnil Tembe.
