Shillong, Feb 15: Meghalaya PHE Minister Marcuise N Marak has assured that the ongoing implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission project in Meghalaya is taking place in a very transparent manner as he dismissed allegations of irregularities in the work, pointing out to the checks and balances put in place.

Dismissing corruption allegations and poor implementation as levelled by the BJP, the minister reiterated that “Practically speaking, implementation of JJM is very transparent.”

“You will get your bill once you complete the work. Third party is there to report that JJM for so and so villages have been completed, the water is flowing perfectly and people have started to get the water only then the bill will be sent for payment. Only after that payment is done and payment is also under a system,” pointed out the minister to the system put in place to check against any irregularity in completion of the project.

Terming it a success story, Marak said that Meghalaya has already achieved 74.47% completion in the JJM implementation by providing water tap connection to over 4.85 lakh households.

“I don’t know what’s their (BJP) problem? There may be some small issues because we are implementing thousands of household connections and we try our best to rectify,” Marak assured.

“Last time too they had alleged that some corruption was going on, but in reality that was not corruption. The project got delayed because there was some obstruction when the construction started. To resume construction, we took some time but once the problem got resolved, work began in full swing. There are no lapses from the part of the department and the government,” clarified the minister.

But, he did reveal that some projects are getting delayed because of power issues.

“The target was given for January but every state did not meet that January deadline. We have already touched the 74.47% and are hopeful to complete the target by March-April. We are trying our level best and pushing for it,” an optimistic PHE minister said.

He further informed that the state is obtaining funds from the Centre through different schemes including Amrut and NESID for the Urban areas.
