Tura, July 28: A team of District Child Protection Unit and Meghalaya Police on Thursday recovered explosives and weapons from ‘Rimpu Bagan’, the private farmhouse of BJP state vice president and Tura MDC Bernard N Marak alias Rimpu.
In a statement, police said the team had gone to the farm house to collect the clothes and books of the rescued children.
During this exercise, they found one small door like structure. When this door was broken open, explosives and other weapons were recovered.
35 Gelatin sticks (explosive substance), 100 detonators, 4 cross bows, and 15 arrows were recovered.
All the items were seized in presence of independent witnesses and shall be produced in court shortly, added the statement.
The police will be adding charges under Explosives Substances Act, 1908 against Bernard N. Marak, who was brought to Tura on Thursday after being caught by Uttar Pradesh police from Hapur following an all India look-out notice and non-bailable warrant was issued against the BJP leader, who is the former leader of militant outfit ANVC-B.
He had fled the State following a police raid at his farm house on July 22, 2022, where he was accused of running an illegal brothel. Following the raid, 5 minors were rescued and 73 people arrested. Large amounts of illegal alcohol and a large consignment of contraceptives were also seized.
