In major breakthrough, police apprehends key distributor of psychotropic drugs in Garo Hills

Tura, April 22: In a major breakthrough in their ongoing campaign against drug trafficking, the South West Garo Hills police made a major headway on Friday night by apprehending a person who was responsible for storing and distributing psychotropic drugs all across the Garo Hills.

The arrest was made as part of a well-planned anti-narcotic operation based on credible intelligence, which was carried out on Friday night in the Mir Jumla area of Monabari, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Monabari Outpost of South West Garo Hills.

Based on credible source information, an anti-narcotic operation was conducted on Friday night at Mir Jumla, Monabari area under Monabari Outpost jurisdiction of South West Garo Hills.

The arrested person has been identified as Chakeawat Hussain, a resident of Mankachar, South Salmara, Assam. He was found in possession of a staggering 689 capsules of SPSHEN (Tramadol Hydrochloride salt content – 34.45 grams) and 113 tablets of Nitracel (Nitrazepam salt content – 1.13 grams). In addition to these, the police also recovered a smartphone and Rs 5000 in cash from Hussain’s possession.

Further investigations revealed that Hussain was using his grocery shop as a front for the storage, sale, and distribution of these psychotropic substances across the Garo Hills region. In response, the authorities have sealed off the shop and are preparing to take strict legal action against the accused.

In this connection, a case vide Ampati PS Case No. 19(04)2023 U/s 22(b)/25 NDPS Act has been registered and investigation is on.

In order to ramp-up their efforts to control the menace of drug trafficking and drug abuse in the society, Superintendent of Police, South West Garo Hills, Vikash Kumar also made an appeal to the general public to help the police with information on such activities and individuals. “If any person has any information about the miscreants involved in this illegal act, they are requested to inform the local Police Station immediately. Their identity shall be kept secret and suitable reward shall be given,” he appealed.
