Shillong, Nov 4: The India-Malaysia joint military exercise titled ‘Harimau Shakti (2023)’ culminated on Saturday at the Joint Training Node (JTN) Umroi Cantonment, Shillong. The exercise aimed to strengthen military capabilities and enhance cooperation between the two nations.
The exercise, which commenced on October 23, was an intense joint training exercise with both the armies exhibiting their combat power and dominance while understanding nuances of fighting multi domain operations in sub conventional scenarios.
The exercise provided opportunity to both the armed forces to train in sub conventional operations in joint environment under United Nations Charter.
The exercise was conducted in two phases, first phase of combat conditioning and tactical training and second phase was of 48 hours validation of training received by both the armies during the conduct of exercise.
During the entire duration of exercise Indian & Malaysian Armed forces displayed the highest standards of professional conduct, tactical acumen & military discipline.
The exercise culminated with a grand closing ceremony wherein both the nations exchanged their cultural fervour to understand each other’s values & traditions.
A total of 120 personnel from 6th Battalion of the Rajput Regiment of Indian Army and 5th Royal Battalion of Malaysian Army participated. The aim of the joint exercise was to acquaint both the forces with each other’s operating procedures in the back drop of sub conventional operations under UN mandate.
Harimau Shakti 2023 was a joint exercise conducted as part of military diplomacy between Indian Army and Malaysian Army alternatively in Malaysia and India, respectively. The exercise is conducted on a reciprocal basis and its first edition was conducted in the year 2019 in Malaysian.
Joint Training Node (JTN) Umroi is the nominated Node of the Eastern Command of Indian Army for conducting joint exercises with friendly foreign countries. In last seven years it has matured as a Centre of Excellence for International Army Joint Training and focussed on strengthening military level exchanges. It reinforces Indian Army’s commitment towards building partnerships with Friendly Foreign Countries (FFCs) by building soldierly bonds, sharing best practices and training shoulders to shoulder on pursuit of common end state.
The Training Node has residential complex for 450 soldiers nestled in the tranquil climes of Shillong Hills and has various amenities, including souvenir shops, showcasing Indian cultural artefacts, state-of-the-art gymnasium and sports facilities for conduct of recreation and friendly matches. All infrastructure is eco-friendly and conforms to the highest standards of maintaining ecosystem of Umroi Military Station.
