Shillong, Nov 3: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) has demanded that the salary which has been paid to Rohit Prasad, who they alleged was illegally appointed as technical officer/senior consultant, should be recovered from the salary of NEHU Vice-Chancellor Prof Prabha Shankar Shukla with no expense borne by the university.
This demand was put forth during the JAC’s second Assembly meeting, held on Friday at the University’s main campus in Shillong.
The JAC also passed a resolution to compel the VC to hold a press conference in their presence, aiming to challenge his justifications. The committee has also resolved to escalate their agitation, applying further pressure on the Vice Chancellor to issue the termination/removal letter for the disputed technical officer/senior consultant.
During the JAC protest on October 31, 2023, Prasad was forcefully vacated from his office by JAC members. Additionally, questions were raised about the VC’s stance on the allegedly unlawful appointment, following the strong opposition voiced by the general assembly.
Prof. Lakhon Kma, spokesperson for the JAC, affirmed that the committee now stands united, absorbing all prior demands and deadlines outlined by NEHUTA, NEHUNSA, and NEHUSU. These have now become the collective demands and deadlines of the JAC, signifying a consolidated effort in pursuit of accountability at NEHU.
