Kaimoi Village: A hidden gem preserving nature in Arunachal Pradesh

Must read

Dibrugarh, Oct 18: Community-driven conservation and tourism have put the quiet, little-known settlement of Kaimoi village in Eastern Arunachal Pradesh in the spotlight.

The village has bagged the Best Tourism Village Award 2025, conferred by the state’s Tourism Department on World Tourism Day (September 27).

A visit to Kaimoi is not only breathtaking natural beauty but also a strong collective will to preserve and promote it.

Led by Rajiv Wangsa, the energetic Zila Parishad Member of Longchan, the villagers have been galvanised by their newfound recognition. “We want to take Kaimoi beyond the state — to the national and even international level,” Wangsa said, reflecting the community’s growing confidence.

To translate that vision into action, a Gram Sabha was convened under the chairmanship of Gangpan Pansa, the village GPC, where strategies were drawn to prepare for incoming visitors. Discussions ranged from forming village-level tourism committees and women’s cultural groups, to building homestays, eco-friendly signage, and bird-watching trails — all anchored in sustainable and inclusive planning.

District Tourism Officer Tanyup Kopak lauded Kaimoi’s efforts, stressing the importance of preserving the Wancho tribe’s cultural heritage while developing tourism responsibly.

The meeting saw active participation from multiple local bodies, including the Kaimoi Tourism Society, Women’s Society, Student Union, and Youth Committee — a testament to the village’s spirit of collaboration.

In a landmark move, the Gram Sabha also passed a resolution to protect the village’s drinking water catchment area under the Arunachal Pradesh Protection of Drinking Water Catchment Areas Act, 2023 (Act No. 5 of 2023), reinforcing Kaimoi’s commitment to ecological stewardship.

Adding a vibrant local touch, five women’s groups were formed to foster healthy competition in maintaining cleanliness across the village. The top three groups — from Chingbanza, Chingkau, and Chingke colonies — were felicitated for their efforts.

From its pristine environment to its strong community ethos, Kaimoi is not just a winner on paper — it’s a living example of how rural Arunachal’s hidden villages can shine through sustainable tourism and grassroots participation.
