Must read

Guwahati, June 9: Congress candidate Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Chowdhury has called for a re-poll in the Karimganj Lok Sabha constituency, citing significant vote discrepancies. Kripanath Mallah from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured the seat with 5,45,093 votes, whereas Chowdhury remained in second position with 5,26,733 votes.

Speaking to reporters, Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Chowdhury said, “I have requested ECI for re-poll and has already sent an email to them. I will soon deliver a hard copy to the District Commissioner today or tomorrow,”.

“My legal team is investigating the matter, and any identified faults will be rigorously contested. The crux of the issue lies in the counting process rather than the voters themselves,” he added.

He further added a vote difference of 103,811, emphasizing that anomalies in the range of 3,000 to 100,000 votes necessitate a re-election to ensure fairness.

The election for the Karimganj Lok Sabha constituency was held on April 26 during the second phase.
