Kawate dominates October Slam 2024 Finals in Tura, Clinches Men’s & Women’s titles

Tura, October 26: The October Slam 2024 basketball tournament reached a thrilling finale at Don Bosco College, Tura on Friday, with Kawate emerging victorious in both the men’s and women’s categories.

Fans and basketball enthusiasts filled the stands, cheering on as Kawate claimed the winning trophies in both matches.

In the women’s final, Kawate faced off against Salgro-13, taking control from the jump and maintaining their lead throughout. Despite a strong effort from Salgro-13, Kawate’s consistent scoring led them to a 57-36 victory.

The men’s final between Kawate and G-Force kept spectators on the edge of their seats. Kawate opened with a 2-point lead, but G-Force quickly took control, dominating the first two quarters with a 10-point advantage. However, the momentum shifted in the third quarter as Kawate made a comeback, showcasing sharp passes and accurate free throws, ultimately clinching a close 89-85 win.

Salgro-13 and G-Force took home the runners-up trophies, while Kawate celebrated double victories in both categories. Shekhar Poddar from G-Force was named Player of the Match in the men’s category, and Gaurima Brahma from Kawate earned the same title in the women’s.

Organized by the District Basketball Association (DBA) alongside the District Sports Office and supported by the Meghalaya Basketball Association (MBA), the event saw distinguished guests, including Manish Kumar, IAS, SDO (Sardar), West Garo Hills; District Sports Officer Saljagring M. Marak; Vice President of the District Football Association Sengrak D Marak; and Fr. Januarius S Sangma, Principal of Don Bosco College.

DBA Tura President Rupom G Momin shared with Hub News, “We usually hold tournaments within our clubs, but this time, we wanted clubs from outside to participate for a broader exchange of skills, which is why we organized an open tournament.”
