Shillong, Dec 17: The state government on Tuesday announced the holding of elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) on February 21, next year.
Addressing media persons, deputy chief minister in-charge district council affairs (DCA) Prestone Tynsong informed that the Governor has approved the cabinet’s recommendation based on a proposal of DCA department for holding of elections to the two autonomous district councils.
He said the notification for the ADC elections will be issued on January 27 while the last date of filing of nominations will be on February 3 and on the same day will be the scrutiny of nomination papers and last date of withdrawal of nominations on February 4.
“The date of polling will be held on February 21 and the results will be declared on February 24,” Tynsong said.
Earlier, the deputy chief minister informed that the date of publication of the draft electoral rolls will be on January 13 and the last date of filing of claims and objections – January 22, disposal of the same – January 24 and final publication of electoral rolls on January 27.
Asked, Tynsong informed that legally the model code of conduct will be effective from the date of publication of the notification which is on January 27.
“Accordingly, the model code of conduct (MCC) will also come into force immediately from January 27, in the districts falling under the jurisdiction of the KHADC and JHADC,” he added.
As far as the election expenditure for the two ADCs, Tynsong said that the fund for this purpose will be deducted from the shares payable to the KHADC and JHADC.
