Shillong, Aug 29: Pyniaid Sing Syiem, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of KHADC, along with Grace Kharpuri, Executive Member of the Market Branch, conducted an inspection at Iewduh market to ensure the safety of shop vendors and maintain cleanliness.
During the inspection, the magistrate, police officials, and government officers were part of the KHADC delegation. The Council’s inspection covered the entire market area, starting from Khlieh Iewduh to Basa Sohsaw, Basa Tympew, and concluding at Bimola Homeopathy Clinic.
The CEM and the inspection team also inquired about cleanliness and safety from the heads of the market and nearby market vicinity.
Addressing reporters, the CEM said the market’s cleanliness is compromised due to narrow roads, preventing municipal trucks from collecting waste dumped by market-goers.
In response, the KHADC plans to provide two garbage trucks for the market’s use. Vendors are encouraged to utilize these trucks and keep the market clean.
The CEM also emphasized that maintaining a clean market will attract tourists and international visitors to explore the traditional Khasi market.
