Shillong, Dec 6: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) conducted an extensive checking of Trading and Labour Licences of shops operated by non-tribals at Ïewduh (Bara Bazar) in Shillong on Wednesday.
The inspection led by Gigur Myrthong, KHADC’s Executive Member in-charge of Trade, involved the participation of several MDCs, including Gabriel Wahlang and Fantin Lakadong, alongside the presence of the East Khasi Hills Magistrate, the Syiem of Hima Mylliem, the Myntri, and the enforcement police of the council.
The inspection was prompted following complaints by the Khun Kynthei U Hynniewtrep Association (KKHA), alleging that numerous non-tribal shops were conducting business operations without possessing the required Trading and Labour Licences.
As a result of the inspection, the Enforcement Policy took stringent actions, leading to the closure of several shops lacking proper documentation.
