Kidnapped labourers rescued by Garo Hills police

Tura, May 8: Two labourers working in a road construction project near Resubelpara in North Garo Hills kidnapped on May 6th morning has been rescued by police on May 7th evening from near Rongrong.

According to police, on 6th May early morning at around 3:30 AM, two labourers working in the PMGSY road construction site at Chidaret about 10 kms away from Resu were abducted by 3 persons carrying lethal weapons like knife, daggers and one of the kidnappers was suspected to be carrying big arms.

Later on the same day The abductors called the victims relatives and the manager and demanded Rs. Five lakhs  for their safe release.

“On receiving the information search and rescue ops was launched immediately on the same day by our teams and on 7th May evening the operations team managed to track down the abductors and successfully rescued the two abducted victim who were being kept in a forest inside a cave in the remote  locaation in near Rongrong,” informed North Garo Hills SP Abraham T Sangma.

Two main accused person and 4 nos of local made guns were also recovered. One of the accused however managed to escape and effort will be made to arrest him, said the SP.

The accused were also earlier arrested last year for abducting the assam trader on the 24/01/2020  from Dingok Market last year,

They were out on bail and started committing crimes again. One of accused is a juvenile in conflict with law who was also released from Observation home earlier.
