Lockdown extended in East Khasi Hills till May 17

Shillong, May 8: Meghalaya Government on Saturday decided to continue with lockdown in East Khasi Hills till May 17 next as cases of Covid positive continues to increase sharply.

Director of Health Services, Dr Aman Warr said that the number of new casesĀ  in Meghalaya till today afternoon was 375, with the number of deaths since yesterday was 11 in East Khasi Hills.

The total active cases at present stands at 2,678 while 1,583 in East Khasi Hills.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that the situation in our state is very serious and very grim.

ā€œWe are not able to reduce the number of cases, from Govt side, we want to appeal to citizens to kindly take care of themselves individually. If you fail to take care further deterioration may take place,ā€ said Tynsong, while appealing to the citizens.

What will be allowed during lockdown?

–Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Home delivery will continue

–Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Construction site where labourers stay within the premises. These activities will be allowed to function in the respective premises.

–Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā However, we will not allow any labourers or employees to move out of such premises or campus.

–Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Request those employers and contractors to adhere to the protocols which will be issued by the District Administration.

Essential Services will be allowed

ā€œEssential commodities will remain to be open with strict SOPs and we would encourage those essential shops in respective localities to work closely with govt and local authorities. We would like to encourage that such shops can be kept open during the lockdown,ā€ the Deputy CM added.

Board Examination

Government has decided to further postpone board examinations and notification will be issued by the Education Department. The board exams were scheduled for May 11 and 12 is being postponed further.

ā€œWe have instructed the education department to again issue notification accordingly to respective students who were to complete their remaining subjects,ā€ Tynsong informed.

Weekend lockdown

ā€œWeekend lockdown in other Districts, which was imposed since last night will also continue throughout the State. Weekend lockdown from 10 pm of every Friday upto 5am of every Monday will continue in the entire state,ā€ he added.
