GANGTOK, June 13: In a surprise turn of events, Namchi Singhithang legislator Krishna Kumari Rai, who is also the wife of Chief Minister Prem Singh Golay, has resigned as an MLA just a day after being sworn into office.
Rai’s contested the elections for first time in which she won with a margin of 5,302 votes, securing 7,907 votes in total. Her winning margin of 71.60 percent was the second highest, following only CM Golay’s 72.18 percent in Soreng Chakung.

The reasons for Rai’s resignation remain undisclosed, but a document confirming her resignation has gone viral. Rai submitted her resignation to the newly elected Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, MN Sherpa, on Thursday. The Namchi Singhithang constituency now remains vacant.
It may be mentioned that Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) took oath as the chief minister of Sikkim for the second consecutive term on Monday in Gangtok.
