Gangtok, June 13: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a warning that in some parts of Sikkim heavy rainfall is likely to occur during the next 2-3 hours.
“Thunderstorms with lightning and few spells of intense rainfall are very likely to occur in some parts of Mangan, Gyalshing and Soreng of Sikkim during the next 2-3 hours. People are advised to stay in a safe place during the thunderstorm activity,” stated IMD.
According to reports, one person was killed, and five others went missing after massive landslides triggered by incessant rainfall caused devastation in Sikkim’s Mangan district.
Landslides blocked stretches of roads and several houses were inundated or damaged, while electricity poles were swept away.
