Shillong, Sept 29: The Deputy Chief Minister, who is also the chairman of the Regional Committee for Jaiñtia Hills, Sniawbhalang Dhar, has informed that Lapangap in West Jaiñtia Hills does not fall under the area of dispute that the two governments are in talks to resolve in the long-standing border differences between Meghalaya and Assam.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Dhar informed that the state government has deployed additional police personnel for protection in the Lapangap area, where community clashes have been reported in the last few days.

Lapangap village turns into warzone as communities from Assam and Meghalaya clash for 2nd day

It may be mentioned that a stand-off between the local communities living along the Assam – Meghalaya border over the claim of land ownership in Lapangap village involved the use of bow and arrows and catapults.

However, after days of tension between the two communities, a high-level meeting between the Deputy Commissioner of West Jaiñtia and the Deputy Commissioner of West Karbi Anglong District was convened on September 28 to quell the recurrent clashes.
