SHILLONG, MAY 20: Rejecting claims of irregularities in the Lower Division Assistant recruitment, the District Selection Committee, South Garo Hills, has said all 3483 applicants were given equal opportunity and final selection was made purely on merit.
The clarification comes after Jhonprizebirth M. Sangma alleged on May 18 that the process was unfair to him.
In a statement, the Chairman of DSC and Deputy Commissioner detailed the multi-stage examination held in Baghmara.
“Out of 3483 applications received for the post of Lower Division Assistant, 1492 candidates appeared for the typing test, and 247 candidates qualified for the written test,” the DSC stated.
Of these, 191 sat for the written exam and 59 cleared it for the personal interview. “All 59 shortlisted candidates appeared before the interview board. After the assessment based on performance and established norms, 18 candidates have been finally selected for appointment to the post of LDA,” the statement said.
On Sangma’s allegation, the Committee maintained, “Shri Jhonprizebirth M. Sangma was afforded the same opportunity as all other candidates at every stage of the recruitment process.”
The DSC stressed that no complaints were lodged while the process was underway.
“No other candidate has raised any grievance or complaint regarding the conduct of the recruitment process at any stage. Even Shri Jhonprizebirth M. Sangma did not submit any complaint or objection during the course of the recruitment process,” it said.
“He appeared for the Personal Interview along with 58 other qualified candidates and was assessed by the Board strictly in accordance with the uniform criteria applied equally to all candidates,” the statement added.
Concluding, the DSC said, “The entire recruitment process was conducted transparently, with results at each stage based strictly on merit and performance,” and reiterated its commitment to “fairness, impartiality, and equal opportunity in all public recruitments.”
