Shillong, Feb 20: Chief Adviser to the MDA government and NPP legislator from East Shillong Ampareen Lyngdoh paid tribute to late Shillong MP Dr Ricky AJ Syngkon, urging politicians to emulate his example.
“If we are to honour his memory, let politics not become a theatre of hatred but of ideas and service. Differences will always exist, but never shadow our shared responsibility,” Lyngdoh said while participating in the obituary reference.
“We rise today in solemn remembrance of our late Dr Ricky. His untimely passing has brought grief not only to this Assembly but to the people of Meghalaya whom we all serve.”
Lyngdoh highlighted Dr Syngkon’s commitment to service, saying, “Though Dr Syngkon and I belonged to different sides, moments like this remind us that beyond our differences, we share the same purpose… In 2024, Dr Ricky and I stood on opposite sides, we debated and we deferred, and we sought the trust of the same people. Yet, I will always remember, even in the heat of that campaign, he never succumbed to direct personal attack.”
She praised Dr Syngkon’s sincerity, saying, “His presence in Lok Sabha was a testament that politics at its best is about service… We mourn the loss of not just a public representative and colleague, but a son of Meghalaya.”
