Early Trends | Massive jolt to NPP in Garo Hills as Agatha trails

Shock and awe surrounds the NPP camp as its sitting MP Agatha K Sangma trails the Congress Saleng A Sangma in the prestigious Tura Lok Sabha constituency.

The Congress appears to have proven all poll predictions wrong as Saleng has overtaken Agatha in almost all constituencies where the first round of counting has begun.

Predictions of the TMC making a dent in the Congress appears to have been mere speculations as the Congress is gaining more and more votes at the expense of the NPP.

The mammoth exercise to count votes polled for the Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 elections will begin at 8 am.

Trends and results will begin from 9 am today.

Results of the Assembly elections in Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh were held simultaneously with voting for the 543-member Lok Sabha. Results of 175 Assembly constituencies in Andhra Pradesh and 147 Assembly constituencies in Odisha and results of bypolls in 25 Assembly constituencies will also be declared today.

Strict security has been put in place for the smooth conduct of counting of votes for over 8,000 candidates in this general elections

As the nation awaits the final outcomes of the Lok Sabha elections, the spotlight is on the eight north-eastern states: Assam, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland, and Mizoram.

Assam, has 14 seats up for grabs. Manipur, Tripura, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, have two parliamentary seats each. Meanwhile, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura will see a contest play out for their lone Lok Sabha seats.

The high-profile candidates like Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Deputy Leader of the Opposition Gaurav Gogoi, are in fray as counting takes place in 152 halls across 52 centres in Assam.

Meghalaya’s results will be determined from 12 counting centres spread across Shillong and Tura. Multi-layer security is in place, ensuring a smooth and transparent process.

The anticipation is high as the region is ready for the pivotal day that will shape its political future.
