Shillong, Nov 12: Jamil Ahmed, a former leader of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), has joined the Indian National Congress (INC) and has been appointed as the Coordinator of the party’s Kaamgaar Karamchari Congress (KKC) for five northeastern states, including Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Sikkim.

Ahmed, who resigned from LJP on October 7, 2025, stated, “I have joined the Indian National Congress under the leadership of Dr. Udit Raj, Ex MP, who is the National Chairman of Kaamgaar Karamchari Congress (KKC) governed by the All India Congress Committee (AICC).”
Speaking about his new role, Ahmed said, “My job is to strengthen the party in the aforesaid states by reorganizing and reuniting the party in the states assigned to me apart from working for the unorganized workers/employees.”
Ahmed expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in Meghalaya, saying, “I am now sure that there will be a Congress Government in place after the elections in 2028.”

He praised the efforts of Vincent H Pala and the MPCC for their loyalty to the party and their efforts in strengthening the party during its challenging times.
Ahmed’s joining the Congress is seen as a significant boost to the party, with prominent leaders who had left the party earlier returning to the fold.
“The return of Shri Zenith M Sangma is an indication that many more state leaders are coming to the congress family,” Ahmed said.
