Williamnagar, July 25: The much-awaited Book Fair at Loyola College, in collaboration with Eastern Publishing House, commenced with great enthusiasm. The event was inaugurated by Smt. R.N. Sangma, Additional Deputy Commissioner of East Garo Hills in the presence of Mr. Rajib K. Marak, Principal of Govt. College, Williamnagar, and Dr. Fr. Philip Abraham SJ, the Principal of Loyola College. The books were tastefully showcased in a spacious hall, promising a delightful reading experience for visitors.
Anticipated to draw participants from 18 schools and 2 other colleges in Williamnagar, the book fair boasts an impressive collection of over 30,000 books spanning various subjects and disciplines. From the realms of Humanities, Social Science, and Science to Commerce, Children’s Books, Competitive Exam Encyclopaedias, Motivational Reads, Novels, and an extensive selection of Stationery, the fair promises something for every reader.
Excitingly, a 10% discount is extended to all students and the general public, making this literary feast all the more enticing.
In her address, Smt. R. N. Sangma underlined the significance of books in providing profound knowledge and urged everyone to cultivate the habit of reading, especially in this digital age when book readership is declining. Quoting an author, she emphasized that reading nourishes the mind akin to how exercise nourishes the body.
The value of reading was further accentuated by Wanshanbok K. Marak, a student of Loyola College, who urged his peers to embrace the habit of reading. He highlighted that reading not only enhances knowledge but also fosters intellectual growth and provides a unique perspective on the world through the eyes of others. With the quote, “Today a reader, tomorrow a leader,” he encouraged his fellow students to unleash their creativity and critical thinking through reading.
