Man accused of cattle smuggling beaten to death by public in Assam’s Morigaon district

Guwahati, Jan 17: In a tragic incident in Assam’s Morigaon district on Wednesday, a man accused of cattle smuggling, identified as Jitu Das from Karbi Anglong district, was reportedly thrashed to death by the public.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday when Das allegedly attempted to steal cattle amidst dense fog. Local residents managed to apprehend the accused, while two of his accomplices escaped with two cattle.

The enraged mob caught Das and subjected him to a fatal beating, resulting in his death, according to the police.

The accused succumbed to his injuries despite being rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment by the police.

This was not the first incident in Assam. Earlier, similar incidents has been reported from different areas of Assam.

“We have registerd a case and started investigation. We will take action as per law,” said a police official.
