Imphal, Nov 25: A 21-year-old youth was killed in fresh attack by armed cadres of a rival outfit along the inter-district border between Kangpokpi and Bishnupur on Saturday.
The deceased youth has been identified as Khupminthang Haokip.
According to police, a gunfight took place in the Kuki tribal dominated Joupi village for several hours, killing the youth on the spot.
The Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) has called for an urgent shutdown in Churachandpur district in protest against the killing of the youth.
According to ITLF leaders, the militants of a rival outfit with sophisticated weapons launched an attack on Joupi village in Kangpokpi district, killing village volunteer Khupminthang Haokip who was guarding one of the bunkers set up by the villagers.
On November 20, two people, including a police constable, were killed by an unidentified armed group in Kangpokpi district.
