Imphal, June 21: A bomb blast in Kwakta, Bishnupur district, left three individuals injured on Wednesday evening. Security forces swiftly responded, evacuating the injured to Bishnupur district hospital, with one victim reported to be in a serious condition.
According to a police officer in Imphal, the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion occurred late on Wednesday evening inside a vehicle. Additional security forces were deployed to the area to ensure the safety of local residents and to investigate the incident.
Officials reported that around 7:30 pm, a Scorpio vehicle parked in the general area of Kwakta exploded, likely due to an IED.
Eye witnesses said the vehicle had been parked over a culvert, and the driver had left the vehicle prior to the explosion.
While they confirmed that there were no other occupants inside the vehicle, three civilians sustained injuries. The injured individuals were promptly evacuated to Bishnupur District Hospital, where medical teams are providing necessary treatment. Of the three victims, one is reported to be in a serious condition.
In a separate development, combined security forces successfully dismantled a bunker reportedly used by insurgents in the Leimakhong area of Imphal West district on Wednesday.
Additionally, intermittent firings between rival militant outfits were reported in Imphal East and Imphal West districts. While no casualties or injuries have been reported from these incidents, the situation remains tense. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and maintaining heightened security measures.
Concurrently, the Army, Assam Rifles, and various central and state security forces are conducting combing operations across different parts of Manipur. These efforts are aimed at ensuring the safety of residents and curbing any potential threats.
