Imphal, June 10: BJP legislature from Manipur has come up with an unique idea by setting up a drop box in his residence to return the weapons looted from security forces.
Imphal East MLA K Susindro Meitei has developed the unique idea and appealed to those who have looted weapons from security forces.
A large poster at a covered shed outside the BJP leader’s house says: “Please drop your snatched weapons here” both in English and Meitei language. Below it is a tagline saying “feel free to do so”, an indication that questions will not be asked how the weapons were in their possession in the first place.
Such move from the MLA has been appreciated by the residence of Manipur.
Over 4000 arms and around five lakh ammunition were looted by miscreants from armouries and outposts of different forces deployed in Manipur since violence broke out in the state last month.
The MLA has also assured anonymity of those who return snatched weapons by dropping them in the ‘dropbox’.
At least 35 weapons and warlike stores were recovered during joint combing operations by security forces on Friday. Nearly 1000 weapons have been recovered by the forces during the combing operations in different places of Manipur.
Over 100 people have lost their lives and around 310 others have been injured in the ethnic violence in Manipur since May 3.
