Manipur : CM Biren Singh dismisses leadership change speculations amid crisis

Imphal, June 29: Amidst speculations about a potential change in leadership in the ethnic violence-hit Manipur, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Friday stated that there is no move to unseat him from his position.

He admitted that some of his party and allied MLAs are currently in New Delhi but claimed they have gone to meet central leaders to effectively address the issues in Manipur, not to seek his resignation as reported by some sections of the media.

Singh added that on Thursday he had a meeting with MLAs where it was decided that a memorandum will be submitted for bring lasting peace in Manipur and make a courtesy call for the victory of NDA in the general election. “We have decided that a small committee will be made to meet the central leaders. The memorandum was signed by NDA MLAs, around 34 – 35 MLAs,” he said.

On the speculations of move to remove him from CM’s chair, he said the rumours are promoted by vested interest groups that are seeking his resignation. “It is wrong. MLAs in the meeting have placed on record the appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Home Minister Amit Shah for their resolve to solve the Manipur issue. Shah has even started holding meeting with different agencies, ” Singh apprised.

A group of MLAs of BJP and its allies including NPF, JD(U) and NPP have gone to New Delhi.
