Guwahati, Nov 22: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday said additional security forces have been deployed along the international border with Myanmar due to the prevailing situation in the neighbouring nation.
Speaking to reporters, CM N Biren Singh on Wednesday said, “Due prevailing situation in Myanmar we have enforced our forces along the border. Not only Assam Rifles but state security forces, BSF, CRPF has been deployed. We are monitoring the situation strictly.”
A total of 74 Myanmar military personnel have fled to Mizoram since Monday last, following the escalating gun battle between the Army and the People’s Defence Force (PDF). On November 14, around 39 of them were sent back to Myanmar. Over 5000 refugees have also come to Mizoram recently.
Meanwhile, Singh claimed that normalcy will return to the state in one or two months, however, some elements are trying to create trouble.
Already 32,000 people including women and children from Myanmar have taken shelter in the northeastern state. The Manipur government has found as many as 2,187 illegal immigrants had taken shelter in Manipur after the military Junta took power in Myanmar in 2021.
