Imphal, May 4: An FIR has been filed in connection with a gun salute incident that took place on May 3 in Saikul, located in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district. The event reportedly occurred during a function commemorating the second anniversary of the ethnic violence in the Kuki-dominated region.

According to the Manipur Police, local leaders and elders were summoned to the police station following the incident. “Raids have been conducted at different areas to arrest the miscreants,” police said in a statement posted on social media.

Police have also confirmed the seizure of five single-barrel guns and camouflage uniforms from the site. The police stated that search operations will continue to locate and arrest the remaining miscreants and recover additional weapons.
“The organizers of the programme will be dealt with as per law,” the statement added.
