Imphal, Sept 12: Three people were gunned down by unidentified men in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Tuesday morning.

According to sources, an ambush took place between Ireng and Karam Vaiphei villages in the Kanghui area in the morning hours.

The situation has become tense in the area following the ambush.

Meanwhile, security personnel rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area.

“We do not have much detail now. All we know is that the incident took place around 8.20 am when unidentified men gunned down three civilians in an area between Ireng and Karam Vaiphei,” a police official said.

The incident comes on the heels of the violence that broke out at Pallel in Tengnoupal district on September 8, in which three people were killed and over 50 injured.

Security forces have launched a massive manhunt in the Kangpokpi district to flush out the anti-social elements.

More than 160 people have been killed and several hundred injured since ethnic violence broke out in Manipur on May 3 between the two communities.
