Imphal, Sep 12: In Manipur, the state government issued orders to restrict the use of ‘press’ stickers only to registered news media organisations and accredited journalists.
In trouble-torn Manipur, the state government, in what it calls a move to check misuse of jackets, vests, and stickers with the wording or inscription Press,” Â has restricted their use to media persons possessing an identity card and accreditation certificate.
In the order, the state government has stated that only press cards or accreditation letters issued by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Press Bureau of India, All India Radio, Doordarshan (DD News), and recognised national and international media firms will be allowed.
According to state government sources, there is a high chance of misuse of such jackets, vests, and stickers by anti-social miscreants and unauthorised persons to get easy access to fringe and vulnerable areas and resort to provocative acts.
Meanwhile, the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) and Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) had on Sunday appealed to those who are not journalists to immediately stop wearing vests that display the ‘PRESS’ logo and putting up ‘PRESS’ stickers on their vehicles.
‘Journalists are facing many challenges and going through various disadvantages while trying to discharge their duties and disseminate crucial information to the public amid the prevailing turmoil in the state,” a joint statement stated.
