Imphal, Feb 28: The Governor of Manipur has extended the deadline for the voluntary surrender of looted and illegally held arms and ammunition until 4 PM on March 6, 2025. This follows a positive response to an earlier appeal made on February 20, 2025, urging individuals, particularly the youth in both valley and hill regions, to surrender weapons to the nearest police station, outpost, or security forces camp.

The initial seven-day surrender period saw encouraging participation. However, based on demands from both valley and hill areas, the Governor has decided to provide additional time for those still in possession of illegal weapons to comply.

During this extension, no punitive action will be taken against individuals who voluntarily surrender their arms. However, after the deadline, strict legal measures will be enforced, and police and security forces will launch extensive operations to recover illegal arms.

“This is the last opportunity for everyone concerned to contribute to peace, communal harmony, and the security of our society. We again request all those in possession of such weapons to avail themselves of this final chance without fear of prosecution,” the Governor stated.

Citizens seeking further clarification can contact their nearest police station or the police control room at 9485280419.
