Imphal, Jan 10: The government of Manipur has reportedly declined permission for the commencement of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from the iconic Palace Ground in Imphal, according to statements from the Congress party.
The President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, Keisham Megachandra, said that the party approached Chief Minister N Biren Singh to seek permission for the venue of the ‘Bharat Joro Nyay Yatra’ at Hatta Kangjeibung in Imphal East district, where the rally is slated to commence. Unfortunately, the Chief Minister declined to grant permission. The Congress delegation met with Singh at the CM Secretariat to discuss the matter.
This development comes a day after Manipur CM N Biren Singh said, “the prevailing law & order situation in the state is very critical. Giving permission to Rahul Gandhi’s rally is under active consideration, we are taking reports from various security agencies. After receiving the reports, we will take a concrete decision.”
As the situation unfolds, the political landscape in Manipur may witness further developments, with both the ruling government and the Congress party navigating the permissions for the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra launch in Imphal.
The ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ is set to traverse 6,713 km, encompassing both buses and foot travel. The extensive journey is designed to cover 110 districts, span 100 Lok Sabha seats, and touch upon 337 assembly segments over a period of 66 days. The proposed program outlines a culmination date of March 20 in Mumbai. The Congress has submitted an application to launch the march from Hatta Kangjeibung in Imphal East district.
