Imphal, Jan 10: Despite Congress’ intentions to launch the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from Imphal, the BJP-led government in Manipur has not yet granted permission to utilize the Hapta Kangjeibung ground in Imphal East district for the event. The yatra, spearheaded by former party President Rahul Gandhi and scheduled for January 14, faces delays as an AICC delegation met Manipur Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi on Monday, seeking necessary approvals.
Amidst the recent intense gun battle between militants and security forces in Moreh, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has expressed concerns about potential fresh attacks. Mass combing operations are currently underway in and around Moreh to apprehend the armed individuals.
CM said, “The prevailing law & order situation in the state is very critical. Giving permission to Rahul Gandhi’s rally is under active consideration, we are taking reports from various security agencies. After receiving the reports, we will take a concrete decision.”
The newly appointed Eastern Army Commander, Lt Gen RC Tiwari, promptly visited Imphal in response to the Moreh firing incidents.
