Imphal, May 6: In response to the severe hailstorm that struck Manipur on May 5, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has announced the closure of all schools and colleges in the state on May 6 and 7 as a precautionary measure.
Taking to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Singh wrote that the decision has been taken as a precautionary measure against the risks posed by the current weather conditions. “I urge all to stay updated and remain safe indoors. The state government is taking all necessary measures to protect lives & properties and assist those who have been affected,” he added.
All schools and colleges will remain closed on 6th May and 7th May, 2024 due to the prevailing weather conditions in the state.

As reported earlier, intense rain and a cyclonic hailstorm struck Manipur on Sunday, May 5, around 1:30 pm, causing severe damage to houses and farmlands in various regions, including the state capital Imphal. The state government is closely monitoring the situation, and all district heads have been ordered to take necessary action to help and compensate people severely affected by the devastating hailstorm.
