Imphal, June 28: The Manipur Patriotic Party(MPP) on Wednesday boycott Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Manipur on June 29,2023(Thursday).

“We are strongly convinced that his visit is to fish in troubled waters as we have pointed out in an open letter that the present crisis in Manipur is the creation of Indian National Congress.The present crisis and sufferings faced by the people of Manipur today is because of the continuation of British policy of Meitei Containment by INC since independence,” MPP stated in press release.

“We have also pointed out that in 1949, Manipur was merged to the then Dominion of India in the most undemocratic fashion by the then Indian National Congress (INC) Government at centre under Jawaharlal Nehru, grandfather of Rahul Gandhi ji, without even giving a chance to then then existing democratically elected government/legislative assembly either to reject or accept the merger. And everybody is aware that this is root cause of insurgency/revolutionary/national liberation movement in Manipur,” stated Naorem Mohen, General Secretary of MPP.

He said, “We have also pointed out that successive INC governments at Centre and Manipur has followed the policy of encouraging illegal migrants from Burma (Presently Myanmar) and East Pakistan (Presently Bangladesh) and converting them as their vote banks to capture political power. The INC is also responsible for the laying foundation for the demand of “Kukiland” through creation of Kangpokpi District,”.

“Today, we are all aware that the burning down of houses and ejection of the Meiteis from Churachandpur, Moreh, Ekou, Kangpokpi and other places of the Kuki dominated areas of Manipur by the Kuki Militant outfits and their supporters was for the creation of a dreamland for Kukis, who had been traditionally supporters of the INC because of the vote-bank politics of the party,”.

He further said, “We are also aware that this has resulted in the retaliation in the Imphal valley by angry mobs and since then Village Volunteers are fighting the Kuki Militants all along the foothills of Imphal valley.These very Kuki Militant outfits has been groomed under INC Governments at Centre and Manipur through informal ceasefire by Indian Security forces since 2005 and then through Suspension of Operation (SoO) since 2008,”.

“It is now an open secret that these Kuki militants are groomed to be used in counter insurgency operations against the Meitei and Naga insurgents. And they have now grown strong enough to challenge the Government of India by ejecting Meitei population from Kuki dominated areas and then demanding separate administration by threatening war if their demands are not met.

We have also pointed out the various acts of the INC governments at centre and Manipur which are against the indigenous population of Manipur, especially the Meities,” he said.

“We, therefore, do not welcome Rahul Gandhi ji in Manipur as a leader of Indian National Congress Party unless he apologises for the injustice the party INC has done against the indigenous people of Manipur, especially, the Meiteis. We also urge the people of Manipur to join us in boycotting him,” Mohen stated.
