Kangpokpi, Jan 15: A roadside hotel named ‘Kim Chow hotel’ in Manipur’s Kangpokpi has gained popularity after senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, leading the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, made a stop in the hotel on reaching Kangpokpi District Headquarters on Monday.
Rahul Gandhi and some of his team members enjoyed tea and snacks at Kim Chow Hotel. Following which, Kim Chow hotel, managed by three sisters and their mother, garnered attraction from many locals after Gandhi left for Senapati.
Kim, a member of the family, expressed her excitement, stating, “I never expected Rahul Sir would stop at my hotel for tea. I am so happy and honored to serve him.”
She continued, “While there are many good hotels in the town, I felt blessed that he chose our hotel.”
Kim’s younger sister recounted that when Rahul Gandhi’s bus stopped in front of their hotel, he inquired from inside about tea. Overjoyed, she nodded, and to her surprise, he came in, had tea, and snacks.
“I was so happy and excited that he even called me to sit near him and started interacting with me, inquiring about our small hotel and our wellbeing,” Kim’s sister added.
“I told Rahul Sir that the hotel is run by female siblings in our family and it served as our main livelihood, to which Rahul Sir appreciated us for our hard work which meant a lot to us,” she further added.
Kim’s mother expressed happiness at seeing the Congress leader personally for the first time, having previously only seen him in the news and on television.
She admitted feeling a bit nervous as one of the country’s most admired leaders entered their hotel despite other good options in the town. She considered it a blessing to serve him and, in return, blessed him for a healthy and successful life.
Considering Rahul Gandhi’s visit as a significant blessing, Kim mentioned they might contemplate changing the hotel name to Rahul Hotel, proudly showing the cup from which Rahul Gandhi had tea in their establishment.
