Manipur: Students attempt to storm CM’s residence & Raj Bhavan in Imphal

Must read

Imphal, Sept 9: Students of Manipur tried to storm the Chief Minister’s residence and Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Monday for failing to resolve the tense security scenario in the state for over a year.

The students in their school uniforms sought a meeting with the Governor to discuss the current crisis of the state and allegedly tried to break into the Raj Bhavan. They made the same attempt at the CM’s residence.

The students are demanding withdrawal of additional central forces deployed in the state to manage the ongoing ethnic violence. The students said, the central forces have failed to restore peace, despite the conflict persisting for over a year and a half.

After the students were stopped from entering into the Raj Bhavan, they held a sit-in protest outside it. Their anger was directed at both the central and state governments, holding them responsible for failing to resolve the crisis.

They are also demanding the removal of the state’s Security Adviser and the transfer of the Unified Command to the state government.

The Manipur government has decided to shut down educational institutions across the state due to escalating violence, including the use of weaponized drones and rocket bombs by ethnic groups and militants.

The government announced that educational institutions across the state would remain closed till September 10. However, the students are upset because their careers are being hampered due to inefficiency of the state and central governments.
