Imphal, Sept 14: A sub-inspector of Manipur police was shot dead by unidentified militants on Wednesday at Chingphei village in Churachandpur district.
The deceased sub-inspector has been identified as Holkhomang Haokip. He was attached to the Churachandpur District Reserve Line.
Haokip had earlier been posted at the Bishnupur district police station.
According to police, he suffered two bullet wounds, and his body was recovered at a bunker on the Chingphei hilltop at around 1:00 PM on Wednesday.

The recovery of Haokip’s body took place when there were exchanges of fire between the volunteers of the majority and minority warring groups at Phubala Canal in the inter-districts of Churachandpur and and Bishnupur on Wednesday afternoon.
Haokip’s body has been deposited at the mortuary of the Churachandpur District Hospital for further legal proceedings.
The incident came a day after three persons, all Kukis, were laid by a group of armed men and killed in Kangpokpi, another Kuki-dominated district.
In all, seven people have been killed in violence in September, the fifth consecutive month that clashes have boiled the northeastern state.
Since May 3, the ethnic violence has started in Manipur between two communities which claimed the lives of over 160 people and displaced over 60,000.
