Guwahati, Feb 2: Thousands of workers, including women, affiliated with Krishak Mukti Sangram Sammittee (KMSS) and Nari Mukti Sanram Sammittee (NMSS), gathered in protest in Guwahati’s Chachal on Friday. Participants from various parts of the state voiced their demand for relief from microfinance loans.
Assam’s Sivasagar MLA and Raijor Dal president, Akhil Gogoi, joined the demonstrators in expressing their grievances.
Protesters accused the Himanta Biswa Sarma government, claiming that during the 2021 Assembly elections, it had promised to provide relief on all microfinance loans for women across the state. However, they argue that the government has not fulfilled its commitment, which lead to their protest.
During the protest, the workers raised anti-government slogans and displayed placards to convey their discontent. Additionally, the protestors submitted a memorandum outlining their demands to the Chief Minister of Assam through the city police.
