Meghalaya car crashes into e-autorickshaw on seeing elephant in Assam’s Boko region

Tura, Nov 30: Four persons riding an e-autorickshaw sustained serious injuries after a speeding maruti suzuki car dashed head on with their vehicle after reportedly seeing a wild elephant attempting to cross the road in Assam’s Boko region on Thursday morning.

The incident took place at Salbari – Boko area around 11:30 am when a speeding maruti suzuki swift car (ML05 U 0550) coming from Shillong towards Tura, West Garo Hills, suddenly swirled to the other side of the road, in what eye witnesses reports happened after the driver changed directions on seeing an elephant emerge from the forest by the roadside.

The sudden change of lane led to a collision with an e-rickshaw that was coming from the opposite direction injuring three passengers and the driver. One of the E-Rickshaw passengers, who sustained serious injuries, has been referred to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital. While the driver of the Maruti Suzuki vehicle fled from the spot, the lady passenger who was coming from Shillong was provided with medical care for her injuries and allowed to go with her relatives.

The vehicle has been detained at Boko police station as part of investigation into the accident.
