Meghalaya CM urges media to act responsibly

Must read

Shillong, OCT 16: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday called on the media and social media influencers to act responsibly when sharing news and information.

According to him, sensationalism and unverified information can lead to mob situations, breakdown of law and order, and serious consequences at the grassroots level.

“I would definitely urge the media as well as the individuals who have different channels or youtube channels of their own who are not certified journalists, even those I would request that we need to be responsible. Just because we would like to get some sensational news and we would like to see our channels get higher numbers, we risk putting information which is unconfirmed and points finger at individuals which can then can turn into a mob situation where crowd can swell up and law and order could breakdown,” Sangma told reporters.

“Therefore, it is absolutely necessary the media, press and individuals involved in social media must act very responsibly when they posts different kinds of news and don’t post news where you don’t have confirmed information because your news or your updates could lead to complicated situation, could lead to law and order breakdown and could lead to a very serious situation at the grassroot level,” he added.
