Tura, Jan 12: The first match of U18 girls’ football competition of the 5th Meghalaya Games 2024 was quite an unusual battle since the West Jaintia Hills team was allowed to field only 8 players. By the time the match got over, it was evident that being three players short was too much of a numerical disadvantage that was impossible to overcome for West Jaintia Hills.
The match between the two teams from Jaintia Hills got off to an early morning kick-off at 8 am at Chandmari football ground in Tura on Friday. However, the West Jaintia Hills team encountered a major setback as they were only permitted to field eight players. This unprecedented decision came from officials who cited issues in the screening process, revealing that the team failed to provide essential documents such as Aadhar and NOC required for verifications.
The East Jaintia Hills team took full advantage of the gifted opportunity and fired in 7 seven goals in the 90-minutes of play.
The West Jaintia Hills team will hope for a better outing when they meet Ri Bhoi on January 14. On the other hand, the high spirited East Jaintia Hills will meet Ri Bhoi on January 16 in hopes to keeping their winning moment going.
