Shillong, Jan 11: The employees of 108 service under the banner of Meghalaya EMRI Workers Union (MEMRIWU) on Tuesday called upon Health Minister James K Sangma to voice their demands of increasing the salary of the EMRI workers and immediately terminate the contract with GVK EMRI, and the Government of Meghalaya to take over the emergency services.
Speaking to reporters in Shillong, MEMRIWU president Microlena Syiemlieh said that the meeting with the Health Minister was positive as the Minister has assured the Union workers that the Government and the department is working on their demands and informed that the Government has issued an additional fund to the GVK EMRI in increasing the salary of the workers as till date the workers have been receiving a minimal wage.
“From the workers union we accept the assurance put by the Government, we will co-operate with the government’s decision in assuring us that our job is secured… whatever decision taken by the Government, we will always be the first priority and our jobs will be secured as we are very experienced in the service,” said Syiemlieh.
“The Minister incharge has also assured us that the GVK EMRI contract will be terminated once it’s contract expires on 31st March, 2022,” added Syiemlieh.
The president further informed that the Minister has assured to give them written assurance, which will be sent to the union president’s email.
