Shillong, Nov 30: Due to the bad condition of the Shillong – Dawki road, the Meghalaya government has now instructed NHIDCL to ensure that repair work should be done immediately along with the construction of the new road.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that they have seen the bad condition, hence, they have made immediate arrangements to ensure that the repair of the phase four or the fourth sector, which is more closer towards Dawki, should start immediately.

“NHIDCL has given us confirmation that they will be starting the repair work within a few days’ time and they have ensured that the quality will be maintained for the repair. But, as you are aware, while the repair does take place, the construction also is going side by side. So, while the repair takes place for the season, immediately the construction work and the other parts also will also start at the same time,” said Sangma.

The chief minister also informed that the first package has also been allotted. The contractor to whom the work was allotted is expected to start the work very soon. He mentioned that the contractor has mobilized some machinery and some manpower, and it is expected that in the next week or 10 days more manpower and machinery will be mobilized.

In addition, work on the first sector, which is the Umshyrpi to Upper Shillong and beyond, work should start very soon.
